Modernizing B2B Trade

Wholesail was founded on the belief that technology can be used to bring companies and their customers closer together and improve operations for everyone.

Wholesail’s CEO, Eli Chait, grew up in the restaurant business. At the age of 12, his first job was entering invoices into the accounting system for his father’s restaurant, Spark Woodfire Grill in Los Angeles. When tasked with statement reconciliation he learned how frequently invoices are lost, how difficult they are to track down and how an acrimonious relationship can quickly arise between a business and its customers. Two decades later, the AR/AP process hasn’t changed much.
Before starting Wholesail, our team spent months researching, interviewing and shadowing accounts receivable departments of small and large business operators and their distributors. We learned that as messy as AP can be for businesses (processing hundreds of paper invoices each month), it’s even tougher for their vendors’ AR departments. Emails and communications fly back and forth as the customer’s accounting system appeared to be out of sync with that of the seller. Frequently relationships are damaged as communication breaks down and payments are delayed.

We built Wholesail to restore harmony and bring efficiency to the relationship between companies and their customers.
Our team has spent a collective 50 years working to help 40,000+ small and medium size businesses improve their operations with technology. Wholesail was founded by a team of repeat entrepreneurs who worked together at OpenTable as product managers, engineers and designers. Prior to OpenTable, most of the team worked together at two startups OpenTable acquired: restaurant recommendation engine Ness Computing and restaurant analytics company Copilot.

Wholesail is backed by several Silicon Valley and New York City based institutional investors that believe in our vision for modernizing business trade.
